Sport & Recreation

Gippsland hosts a range of national and international sporting events that reflect the rich recreational opportunities available throughout the region, including swimming, boating and water skiing.

The region has hosted the international waterskiing championships and boasts the annual Traralgon Marathon – the oldest event of its kind in Australia. Gippsland also hosts the annual International Junior Tennis Championships in Traralgon and AFL Challenge matches, attracting athletes and spectators from across the country and overseas.

Whether it is Australian Rules football, netball or soccer, joining country sports clubs is one of the best ways to get to know other locals and become part of the community.

The $57 million redevelopment of the Gippsland Aquatic Centre in Traralgon has been completed, providing state-of-the-art facilities for both community use and competitive events.

Located in Hernes Oak, the Haunted Hills Mountain Bike Park features more than 25 km of progressive trails, catering for beginners through to Level Gnarly riders.
